Cutting during emergency situations requires that Save and Serve Professionals have a readily accessible knife and are able to quickly and safely cut around people in hectic surroundings. Performance, ergonomics and comfortable use are all key elements needed in a rescue or marine knife.
Spyderco's Rescue sheepfoot blade (A blade with a round, blunt tip that has no point. The design inhibits accidental stabbing while working in emergency situations, and inflatable boats, etc.) is flat saber-ground VG-10 (stainless steel with cobalt and other special metals). The blue C14 is SpyderEdged with 1-inch of PlainEdge at the tip for detailed cutting, wire stripping. pencil sharpening, etc. This combination blade is not manufactured in the black Rescue 93mm. But hey, Blue is the Kings Point color!
The Spyderco Trademark Round Hole is enlarged to 14mm resulting in an enlarged hump that boosts ergonomics, strengthens the blade and lessens fatigue during long term/repetitive cutting. It also allows you to easily open the knife one-handed (useful in many marine or rescue situations). Spine texturing, a deep choil (cut out, molded or formed area where the handle and blade meet, to protect the fingers when gripped) and "Volcano-Grip" (Spyderco's trademarked name for the special waffle texture) keep the knife from slipping in the hand. The handle is FRN-A nylon polymer mixed with glass fiber and is very strong but light weight. Comes equipped with an ambidextrous tip-up carrying clip.
Overall open length is 8 3/16" Blade length is 3 5/8" (93mm). Weight is 2.7 oz.
