With the age-old traditional mariner's greeting, we salute you as your family embarks on a grand new chapter in its chronicles. Whether you are a Kings Point Appointee or a "busting at the seams" Proud Kings Point Parent, we heartily salute you all, for without the backing, support, and example of the family, the new Midshipmen could not have arrived at this milestone in his or her life. As always, all new voyages begin with a small step -- enjoy your journey! The Mission of USMMA Southern California Parents Association is to promote and support the Academy, its goals, programs and objectives, its Regiment of Midshipmen, faculty, staff and alumni. We serve as a support organization for Plebe Candidates, their families, and all Midshipmen and their families during their years at the Academy. Our primary focus is to keep our California Midshipmen supported and encouraged while they are so far from home, and to help network between both them at the Academy and us parents here. We ask that you do what you can to participate and support our Club, and enjoy the friendships that can be lifelong. ![]() Congratulations Class of 2009 on your successful completion of INDOC! We wish you the best as you complete your Sea Duty and we are sure that KP campus might look pretty good come November! Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you travel. Special Note to New SCal Parents: Heartiest congratulations on your student's appointment to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. We understand the pride and yet the great apprehension that you are feeling at this time. No need to worry more than 24,000 sets of parents have already survived this unique and rewarding experience and so will you! The purpose of SCAPA, a chapter of the USMMA Parents Association, is to share in your pride and to help alleviate your apprehension. The next year brings with it a roller coaster of emotions for all of you. Unless someone has gone thru a Plebe Year, they cannot understand what it entails. Every member in the group will tell you that it was a much better experience by having the opportunity to share it with others who understood just what it was that they were going thru that Plebe year. We hope that you will take advantage of our experiences and join us. We are all here to answer your questions, listen to your tales of woe, and encourage you over the rough spots you will encounter. The friendships that you will form will be very special. They will be based on the pride you have in your son or daughter, and it will only grow as their years at Kings Point progress. We are charged with promoting USMMA Kings Point, its programs, and most of all, all the Midshipmen. We feel that it is our sacred duty and a proud responsibility to help educate the general public regarding its history, purpose, and its rightful place among the other federal service academies in the nation's service. So it's "Full Steam Ahead" on your parent's voyage for success and support during the next four years. ![]() |
